Robert Jones is an honorably retired law enforcement officer with more than thirty-four years of experience as a California Peace Officer, including twenty-eight years as a supervisor, manager, bureau supervisor and leader. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University, Mr. Jones’ law enforcement career started with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department followed by the University of California Police Department and finally with the California State University Police Department. All three career stops were punctuated with leadership roles in various specialized assignments, from narcotics investigations, criminal investigations, background investigations, internal affairs investigations, workplace violence prevention, risk assessments and the management of threats.
As a threat management professional responsible for the safety of a large university campus population in excess of 40,000, Mr. Jones’ personalized “realistic common sense” approach toward the management of threats pioneered an emphasis of “simple compliance” rather than arrest and incarceration. His extensive experience with the management of inappropriate workplace behaviors involving unwanted pursuit, stalking and threats of violence incorporated a multi-discipline approach designed to quickly, yet correctly, mitigate and manage these types of inappropriate workplace behaviors.
Mr. Jones is a 1993 graduate of the FBI National Academy where he learned the value of building and cultivating long-term meaningful professional relationships. To that end, he has been an active member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals since 1994, and a founding member of the San Diego ATAP chapter in 1998. The evolution of his work and his interest in the areas of risk assessment and the management of threats led to an eight year commitment to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office SCAT team, (Stalking Case Assessment Team) and his election as a two term president of the San Diego ATAP Chapter.
Over the years, Mr. Jones has developed numerous instruments that provide practical guidance and assistance to supervisors and management regarding the prevention of workplace violence. He has an extensive history of instructing and lecturing on the topic of workplace violence prevention and criminal stalking. In 2001, Mr. Jones wrote about campus stalking in a published book wherein he describes with distinct clarity the real world dynamics of campus stalking.
Although retired from law enforcement, Mr. Jones’ passion for the field of risk assessment and the management of threats continues with his association as a Senior Consultant with Baron Center, Inc. Mr. Jones brings his insight, understanding and more than fifteen years of experience in the management of inappropriate workplace behaviors, unwanted pursuit, and criminal stalking to our team of professionals.
