Ed Sherman is a Senior Consultant with Baron Center, Inc., a San Diego Based training and consulting firm. Ed has 30-years of experience in the public safety field and allied professions. He was an officer and deputy with the City and County of San Diego for 15-years and later worked as a criminal intelligence analyst and supervisor for the California Department of Justice. Ed also spent more than five years as a risk analyst for the San Diego County Department of Human Resources, where he coordinated safety and security issues and served as the county’s primary workplace violence threat assessor. He is a state-certified law enforcement trainer and has extensive experience working with members of organizations at all levels.

In his role as the County of San Diego’s lead threat assessment professional, Ed worked closely with management to assess dangerousness and intervene in a variety of employee behaviors. As a threat assessor, Ed routinely conducted interviews with involved employees and consulted with human resources, management, labor relations and legal staff to determine an appropriate course of action. He has helped employers cope with problematic behaviors that range from the threatening and potentially violent, to harassment, anger and conflict, and simply inappropriate.

Ed received a Master’s degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University. He researched and addressed topics including workplace violence, sexual harassment, fraud and substance abuse for his Master’s thesis entitled “Organizational Management of Employee Misconduct.” Ed has begun studies as a doctoral student in Consulting Psychology at Alliant International University. The program combines elements of both organizational and individual psychology and leads to licensure as a psychologist in California. Ed also holds a professional certificate in Trauma Recovery Services from San Diego State University.

Ed is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists, International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and the International Public Management Association for Human Resources. He is also a student affiliate of the American Psychological Association.
